Bristol Spring Showcase

Tribe of Doris hosts it’s annual Spring Showcase in Bristol on Saturday 7th May!

Join us at the Kuumba Centre on Hepburn road, St Pauls for a diverse showcase of refugee artists and world music acts. Check out our Facebook page. Delicious food and drinks also available on the night (see below)

Doors open at 7pm with our first act on at 7:20pm.

Entry prices are £10

£7 concessions (unwaged/0ver 60’s/under 18’s/disabled/students)

£5 young people (8 - 17 year olds)
Donation for children under 8 yrs

Some of the proceeds from this night will support a refugee arts fund (Lorraine Ayensu Refugee Arts) and help refugees access diverse cultural events. This event is supported by Platforma

Confirmed acts so far…
Ali Elmubarak and Knud Stuwe are fast becoming an established oud duet. Besides being a guitar and oud player, Knud is also a composer and he has been learning some of the melodies that Ali has brought with him from Sudan.

Moussa Kouyate - a master kora player from Senegal who has become a familiar face in Bristol. Moussa is established as an international artist following professional visits to Europe including solo performances at WOMAD, Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury Festivals, The Royal Festival Hall, Barcelona World Music Festival and on BBC Radio 3 and TV Music Live. Since 2000 Moussa has also worked in collaboration with Kevin Brown, UK slide blues guitarist with whom he has toured and released an album “Kora Blues”.

Kaywan & Dijwad - Kaywan is a Kurdish singer who has perfomed in Bristol during Refugee Week, with a broad range of Persian songs. He will be accompanied by Dijwad on the saz, a traditional Persian stringed instrument.

Bahman - Iranian song

Mpe-Asem: African Xylophone, drums and percussion creating new music from traditional Ghanaian grooves. We will offer you an evening to entertain you, touch your soul and groove your feet. Featuring Ben Lawrence, Victoria Gater, Chris Hurn and Nick Clough.

Alafia: Roots Brasil Dances & Rhythms of the Orixas, featuring percussion, singing and dance, featuring Jon Hardeman, Angeles Fiallo Montero

Afropean Beats Collective: The vibrant, newly formed ABC, bring a fused sound of West Africa meets British folk rock twist. Irresistible Mandeng rhythms, a hint of Malian blues and traditional Guinean dance moves. providing high energy vibes to get any audience grooving!

Featuring…..Lee Williams (Lead guitar, vocals), Aisha Dennis& Saskia Watkin (Backing vocals, percussion & dance), Chris May (Bass), Andrew Coburn (Kit Drums), Simon McCarthy (Kora, Djembe), Kirby & Rubba (Percussion)

Delicious hot food and drinks, plus cakes will be provided by: Scoff & Relish on the night, including…
Veggie and Chickpea Tagine with Harissa Yogurt and Tamari Seeds
West African Chicken and Peanut Stew with Kale and Crushed Chilli Peanuts.
All Served with scoff and relish scone balls
If you fancy something lighter there will be delicious salad boxes available…yummy!
