Welcome to the Tribe of Doris website!

Rather than leaping in with a feast of words to introduce ourselves we thought we'd try some sights and sounds of Doris. If you like this taste of our Drum, Dance, Song & Ceremony, please explore our site in more detail to discover our Summer School Drum Camp, our education initiatives and our new involvement in arts festivals around the world!

Who's Online

oh dear!

We are very sorry that we are having problems with our web site. As some of you may know it went down for a while and now it is back it is not what it used to be! Lots of information has temporarily gone astray and we are doing our best to find it!

Sadly last years volunteers application form and ticket buying form have been on the site again and this years forms have disappeared. We have been able to put that right as from today the 9th May, but information about this years teachers has gone missing....

We have got our usual fantastic collection of teachers, including Sheikh Ahmad Dede and his whirling dervishes, Murjana with authentic bellydance from the Lebanon, Felipe de Algeciras bringing us the wild passion of flamenco for the first time at doris, Tibetan arts from Lobsang Chonzor Bhutia, Jamyang Ketup and Ugyen Choepell as well as Seckou Keita, Nii Tagoe, Louai Alhenawi, Sonja Toure, Denise Rowe, Yvette Staelens, Chartwell Dutiro, James Barrow and many many more besides.

if you've never been to Doris before please don't think that we will lose our teachers in the field! We have a reputation for a fantastically well organised and unique event where you can have the time of your life, drumming, dancing, singing, listening, learning, sharing, laughing to your hearts content.

Doris goes to Korea

flying a korean flag

Doris is back from a very successful trip to South Korea now. We will be posting photos on the website soon, so watch this space!

Last year Doris was very proud and excited to have been invited to be part of South Koreas oldest cultural festival - the Ulsan Cheoyong Culture Festival - that has been running for  40 years.

In the first week of October 2007 we travelled with Penny Avery from Jamaica/UK, Eugenia Ledesma from Argentina, Claudio Kron do Brazil and Laercio dos Angos Borges from Brazil. We ran workshops and had jam sessions to create a Doris flavour at the event, culminating in our usual wonderful, celebratory finale involving all the workshop participants.

It went so well they have invited us back in 2008!

2007 Doris was wonderful!

thumb_doris_logo_full.jpgThe 2007 Tribe of Doris Intercultural Summer School on the Somerset/Devon border, ran from Wednesday 22nd to Monday 27th August 2007. Aftrewards Deasy & Siobhan went to Tuva for an adventure, so the website will get updated when they return late September. Meanwhile please upload your photos from this years event so we can all share the pleasure of seeing friends old and new.

What an adventure that was! It has given birth to an amazing opportunity to create an Intercultural Summer School outside Moscow at Midsummer 2008. We will be working with our Russian partners Cultural Dialogue, who are also developing a 10 year project to build a Global Village called Ethnomir. Watch this space for further news!

All the 2007 calendars have been sold now. We have decided to create another beautiful calendar for 2009 that will be on sale at The Intercultural Summer School 2008 and on the website too.

Thanks To All!
A big thank you all who came to Doris this year, another wonderful event blessed by the perfect weather and brilliant teachers and participants!
