Hammered Dulcimer
UK A beginners guide to Hammer Dulcimer European Arts Fax: www.timmanning.net Tim Manning has a Degree in Music Technology. He has made and played Hammered Dulcimers for sixteen years and his own playing is often culturally inspired by Indian music and minimalism. The Hammered Dulcimer is a greatly neglected instrument in the UK although it has a huge amount of musical and percussive potential. The instrument exists in subtly different forms in many cultures of the world such as Romanian, Iranian, Indian and Chinese which allows for a great deal of cultural versatility. They also have a smaller place in Greek , Thai and many others, including British. It looks complicated to play but it is essentially quite a simple layout. In his workshop Tim will run a beginners guide to Hammer Dulcimer. He will cover the history of the instrument and how to find your way round a dulcimer. He will assume no experience but will include how to incorporate drumming techniques on a dulcimer. http://www.youtube.com/user/musicmanning |
