About Matt Gilkes

Matt has been teaching Pilates for many years and runs his own Pilates studio in Bristol, where both he and Anne-Marie teach classes 6 days a week.

Matt discovered Pilates while learning trapeze at Circomedia where Pilates was used in the warm-up and then in creating efficient controlled movement on the trapeze. He soon started to see the benefits of Pilates on his own body and how it changed the way he moved on a daily basis. He started to take regular Pilates classes which in turn led him to take this further and train as a teacher under the instruction of Master Trainer Suzanne Scott at The Scott Studio in Somerset.

Pilates helps you to understand your body more and realise the importance of movement and how much it directly affects your well-being and everyday life activities. The body is amazing and more than just the thing that carries our brain around in and yet we mainly ignore it. Pilates is a great way to enable you to connect with your body and enjoy its uniqueness.

Matt hopes that his love and enthusiasm for this intelligent method of exercise will help to inspire you and enable you to make changes within your own body so you too can experience the amazing benefits it can bring.

As a teaching member of the Independent Pilates Teachers Association, a vibrant, mutually supportive community of teaching professionals who respect the focus and individual approach of those within it, Matt continues to learn and broaden his Pilates experience both formally and informally.

About Anne-Marie O’Neill

After studying English Literature at The University of Bristol, Anne-Marie  became a Secondary School English teacher and consequently a Deputy Head-Teacher. In 2014, a shoulder injury brought her to Pilates’ classes (on the recommendation of her osteopath) and she began to re-assess her relationship with her own body and the way it moved. Two years later, she was totally hooked and knew that she wanted to teach Pilates as well as practise it: it had totally transformed her body and her life! Anne-Marie then studied for 14 months with the Pilates Foundation in Cardiff, passing her practical examination with a distinction. She now teaches at Bristol Movement Space in Bristol and currently balances teaching English at a school and Pilates at the studio
