Tibetan Monk creating Sacred Art and Tibetan Culture at Doris |

|
|
This year we are very
excited to be offering a taste of Tibetan culture. People who came last year
will remember seeing Ugyen Choephells extraordinary Thangka paintings and
meeting Dawa and Shelok and Foldong, who were selling arts and crafts from
Tibet.
This year we have dance and
song workshops from Tibet as well. We have invited Tibetan dancer Lobsang
Chonzor Bhutia who will be teaching traditional Tibetan dances. Shelok Tsering
will be lightening our hearts with her beautiful voice as she teaches Tibetan
folk songs and how to make momos - traditional Tibetan dumplings and Dawa
Tsering will be giving talks about Tibetan culture.
Ugyen & Jane
Choephell have invited Tibetan buddhist monk Jamyang Ketup, the head trustee
of the Tharlam Sarsang Namgyaling Monastery in Nepal, to the Summer
School. He belongs to the Sakya order of Tibetan buddhism and has
travelled widely throughout the world as he is reknowned for his expertise in
the sacred arts. He came to the UK in 2003 with three other monks to feature in
their Tibet Arts festivals which were held in 8 venues in Wales and the south
west. The monks created sand mandalas and butter sculptures and provided a
unique insight into the Tibetan sacred arts. Jamyang Ketup will be creating a
sand mandala at Doris, talking about his work and introducing the technique of
mandala making. Ugyen Choephell will also have his exquiste paintings.
