5 Rhythms Dance is a simple, dynamic movement meditation that anyone – of any age, size, or physical ability – can practice. There are no steps to follow, no choreography to learn, no way to do it wrong. Fantastically good fun, and a first class physical workout. Its deeper teaching is how to fully allow the body to respond to the natural movement of its energy. This simple exploration is a process of surrender to the flow of your own energy through dance. The practice rapidly confronts us with our inhibitions, our masks and other defences – but includes simple ways to move beyond them. As a dance, it is physically liberating and exhilarating; yet it brings quiet to the mind and a profound sense of internal stillness within movement. Bernadette has been immersed in the 5 Rhythms dance practice for more than 20 years, and has been teaching since 1998. Her approach to the work has been influenced by a number of other profound spiritual practices: principally Isha Yoga, Movement Medicine, Sky Dancing Tantra, Sacred Trust Shamanism and the teachings of Abraham Hicks. She also practices yoga, meditation and Kriya breathwork, which she integrates beautifully into her classes, workshops and training programmes.
