Our wonderful volunteers and crew are an essential part of the Summer School, providing the support, care and attention that allows the event to run smoothly. Without them we would not be able to run the event. We recognise that not everyone can afford to buy a full price ticket to come to Summer School but they may really want to be part of what we do. Reflecting on this we devised our working tickets which cost less but still allow you to access the workshops and be a key part of the event. Additionally, the financial support that working tickets provide are a vital part of keeping the event financially sustainable.

Tribe of Doris’ Summer School is very different from a festival, and in order to provide top quality tuition and a unique diverse “world village community” event we need to make it financially sustainable. That includes making sure there are provisions for our crew and staff. We really value the contributions from volunteers and it’s a great experience that offers opportunities to learn transferable skills. Volunteering through a working ticket also gives you the chance to become an integral part of the organisation in the future, helping to shape and determine its course.

•You must be over 18 to volunteer with us.  If you have worked with us since in the last two years simply email Richie via richie@tribeofdoris.co.uk so we know you want to get involved again.

All working tickets cost £65 except site crew, first aid and artist liaison tickets (see below). You will be refunded £20 onsite at the end of the event. Subject to your application form being received and approved, you will need to pay the fee into the Tribe of Doris bank account (non-refundable)It ensures that in exchange for working, you benefit from access to all workshops outside of your shifts, plus free camping and parking. The £20 deposit return is subject to you attending all of your shifts and completing your contracted hours.

DEADLINE FOR PAYMENTS WEDNESDAY 5TH JULY

•There will be a designated crew camping area with cooking facilities so that you can get to know the rest of the lovely crew and make food easily!

•If you are bringing a child to the Summer School and wish to work as well, you must have childcare provisions whilst you are on shift.

Site crew                                                                                                                              

Availability: Sunday 6th August (afternoon)-  Monday 14th August (evening) 2017

Cost: £30 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Full days on the 7th, 8th, 9th, 13th & 14th. Plus 4 hours a day on the 6th, 10th, 11th & 12th with one of these days off.

We are also looking for one or two people to assist our electrician and lighting crew.  You do not need to be experienced in this area but have an interest and willingness to learn.

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable

Positions: ONLY 4 POSITIONS LEFT (3 meals a day included)

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                        

• This role gives a really good insight into the management and running of an event and allows crew time to participate in workshops during the event. You must be a team player and be prepared to work long hours doing physical work.

During set up and take down you will work from breakfast until dinner (long days of physical fun).  Around 8-9 hours per day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday and Monday

• During the full days of the event (Thursday to Saturday) you will work no more than 4 hours a day. All site crew will get one day off during the event (except Wednesday and Sunday)

• We will be packed down by Monday night (14th August 2017)

• You must be available for the 8 days pre, during and post event, setting up; helping to run the event; taking down & packing up.

• We will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner apart from your day off.

Lighting & Electrics team

Availability: Sunday 6th August (afternoon)-  Monday 14th August (evening) 2017

Cost: £30 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Full days on the 7th, 8th, 9th, 13th & 14th August. Plus 4 hours a day on the 6th, 10th, 11th & 12th with one of these days off.

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable

Positions: ONLY 2 POSITIONS LEFT (3 meals a day included)

Role & Notes:    

• Person to help with installation and setup of lighting around the site. Putting up lights for workshops and performances , as well as outside lights and help make the place look pretty!

• Work includes putting up lights in marquees, tent, trees and on poles; laying out cables, plugging them together. Work needs to be thought out and planned – to get lights where they are needed and where they can be plugged in

• Needs to be good practical sort of person who likes doing things tidy and safely. Some of work is on a ladder and some pulling cables around – a few of them are quite big and heavy.

• You don’t need to be an electrician or experienced in this area but have an interest, common sense and a willingness to learn.  Ollie and Dave will plan and sort technical issues and you will take instruction from them. This could be a good opportunity to learn about site electrics from an experienced team

• We will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner apart from your day off

 

Gate Crew                                                                                                                             

Availability: Monday 7th August – Sunday 13th August 2017

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Four hours per day; no more than 20 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable             Positions: ONLY 2 POSITIONS LEFT – Food NOT included

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                        

 • Working in a team, with most people on duty on the 10th Aug and then maintaining a gate presence during the event

• Wednesday afternoon, Friday afternoon & Saturday morning are peak times

• You need to be available between Tues 8th Aug and Sunday 13th August 2017

 

Stewards                                                                                                                                  

Availability: Tuesday 8th August – Sunday 13th August

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Four hours per day; no more than 20 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable             Positions: ONLY 5 POSITIONS LEFT  – Food NOT included

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                        

• Stewards are the main point of contact for the public and therefore are a crucial part of the team. This is a dynamic role which will include a variety of tasks from, setting up workshop spaces, moving equipment to looking after fires.

• Arrival in the afternoon of Tues 8th Aug ready for work on Weds 9th August. Must be available until Sunday 13th August 2017

• We are looking for friendly and welcoming people who can be a reassuring presence to the public.

 

Kids Area                                                                                                                             

Availability: Tuesday 8th August – Sunday 13th August 2017

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Four hours per day; no more than 20 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable

Positions: ONLY 1 POSITIONS LEFT – Food NOT included

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                            

• This is a fun and dynamic role helping to facilitate the kids area activities and providing support for the Kids Team and Teachers.

• Must have a valid DBS form and previous experience working with Under 12’s desirable

• Arriving on the evening of Tues 8th Aug ready for work on Weds 9th August. Must be available until Sunday 13th August 2017

 

Youth Area                                                                                                                  

Availability: Tuesday 8th August – Sunday 13th August 2017

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Four hours per day; no more than 20 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable           Positions: ONLY 4 POSITIONS LEFT

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                          

• This is a fun and dynamic role helping the youth to create their area and providing support for the Youth Team and Teachers.  You must enjoy and feel confident to engage with teenagers to encourage them to participate in the activities available to them

• Must have a valid DBS form and previous experience working with 13-17 year old’s desirable

• Arriving on the evening of Tues 8th August ready for work on Weds 9th August. Must be available until Sunday 13th August 2017

 

Artist Liaison                                                                                                                             

Availability: Monday 7th August (afternoon)-  Sunday 13th August (evening)2017

Cost: £30 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Six hours per day; no more than 30 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable

Positions: ONLY 4 POSITIONS LEFT (one meal a day included)

Role & Notes: Artists and teachers are at the heart of what we do and we respect and value them dearly. The Artist Liaison tent is the main point of information for artists, teachers and facilitators on the field. It involves checking in artists, teachers and facilitators, for example giving them their meal vouchers, camping locations, orienting them to the site etc. The team will also take responsibility for the Evening Entertainment logistics. The A/L team will issue information to teachers about Programme changes, communicate with HQ about Programme changes and make Programme changes.  The team will work closely with HQ and the Steward teams to ensure that teachers have everything they need for their workshops to run smoothly.  During quiet times the A/L team will help with workshop evaluation. It requires friendly team players who can respond to unpredictable situations with a calm temperament and who possess a can do attitude. 

 

Poo Faeries                                                                                                                             

Availability: Tuesday 8th August (afternoon) –  Sunday 13th August (evening) 2017

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Two hours per day, no more than 12 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable

Positions: ONLY 3 POSITIONS LEFT (NO MEALS included)

Role & Notes:       Monitoring all the toilets and showers on site

• Restocking toilets with toilet paper

• Sweeping shower floors to remove excess water

• Spraying and wiping toilet seats

• Litter picking in toilets and shower blocks

 

First Aid Team

Availability: Tuesday 8th August (afternoon) –  Sunday 13th August (evening) 2017

Cost: £50 to confirm your place (£30 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: One shift during the event between 9am-3pm, plus one shift of 3pm – 9am for evening and overnight cover on another occasion. Rotational.  Total of 24 hours – much of which will be on call one night. Well supported First Aid Team lead by Chris Cook.

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable

Positions: ONLY 2 POSITIONS LEFT (NO MEALS included)

Role & Notes:       Must have current valid first aid certificate 

• Confident to deal with members of the public and be able to manage minor injuries.

• Reassuring presence and calm approach

• Happy to be on call for one of your shifts (between 3pm – 9am)

 

Kitchen Crew                                                                                                            

Availability: Tuesday 8th August – Sunday 13th August 2017

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Six hours per day on Thursday & Friday, plus 2 x 4 hours per day on Weds, Sat OR Sun; no more than 20 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable   Positions: ONLY 2 POSITIONS LEFT – One meal per kitchen shift included (two meals)

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                          

• Helping the kitchen team to prepare, cook and present food on Thursday & Friday as part of the Tribal Feast

• Catering experience preferable. Kitchen crew need to have a willingness to get down and dirty. Working to clear instruction is the most important criteria.

• On Wednesday you will help out on the gate, HQ or Artist Liaison for 4 hours.  On EITHER Sat or Sunday you will do a four hour shift, helping out the Stewards team

• You must be prepared to work hard as part of a dynamic team, led by our kitchen manager

• During the event you will work on average four hours a day (no more than 20 hours over the 5 days); leaving the rest of your time to participate in workshops and enjoy!

• You will be provided a meal for every kitchen shift worked (two)

 

HQ Team    NO POSITIONS LEFT                                                                                                       

Tuesday 8th August – Sunday 13th August 2017

Cost: £65 (£20 refunded at the event after hours are completed)

Hours: Four hours per day; no more than 20 hours over the event

Conditions: Payment must be made before your position can be confirmed. This payment in non-refundable             Positions: NO POSITIONS LEFT – Food NOT included

Role & Notes:                                                                                                                                          

• HQ crew will be manning the Information Desk under the guidance of our lovely HQ manager Helen Gialias and providing information for the public.

• Arrival on the evening of Tues 8th Aug ready for work on Weds 9th August. Must be available until Sunday 13th August 2017

• Being a welcoming and friendly presence

  • I would love to be part of this event. I have experience in setting up meeting spaces and facilitating the smooth running of meetings and events. I am experienced in dealing with the public in a courteous, supportive and enabling way. Ideally, I would like to take on the role of Steward although I would also consider the role of gate crew.

    I left £70.00 cash at your office in Hamilton House at around 5:00pm Wednesday 29 June in anticipation of being accepted.
